Dr. Steven Nelson is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who was raised in Baton Rouge. He attended Louisiana State University for his undergraduate studies and received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to graduating at the top of his dental school class, he was bestowed the Horace Wells Excellence in Dental Anesthesia Award, and the Excellence in Implant Dentistry Award. He was also inducted into the C. Edmund Kells and OKU Dental Honor Societies.
After dental school, Dr. Nelson completed a 6 year residency at LSU in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. As part of his residency, he received a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. During this time he completed a one-year general surgery internship at University Medical Center in New Orleans, including additional months of anesthesia training.
This extensive training allows Dr. Nelson to offer a wide variety of surgical procedures to his patients. He provides IV sedation and general anesthesia, wisdom tooth removal, dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma surgery, TMJ surgery, and treatment of oral and facial pathology with subsequent reconstruction.
Dr. Nelson has a special interest in orthognathic surgery, bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, and dental implant surgery. Along with his well trained office staff he is able to provide his patients with the most updated and accurate methods of care using in-office CT scans and the latest digital equipment.
Dr. Nelson is a member of several organizations including the American Dental Association, American Medical Association, Louisiana Dental Association, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He dedicates time at the hospital in order to teach the resident surgeons rotating at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
Dr. David Zelig is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Memphis and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, he then completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
He maintained a private practice in Memphis, TN, active in craniofacial and trauma surgery, as well as oral surgery resident education.
After returning to NY, he has been active in facial trauma surgery, and major implant surgery. He is an oral surgeon with The Clear Choice Dental Implant Center, as well as the Smile By Design team.
Dr. Zelig is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the New York State Dental Association. In his free time, he enjoys time with family, weightlifting, cycling and guitar.
